That\u2019s what gives them much of their power and pizzazz.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem is: Many AI enthusiasts send the message that generative AI tools eliminate the need for these filters. We\u2019re hearing a lot of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust enter your business type and audience, and ChatGPT will generate a complete marketing plan.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust enter a brief description, a keyword, and a tone of voice. Click \u2018Generate\u2019 and Jasper will create a ready-to-publish blog post.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both statements can be true. With good prompts, generative AI can do some impressive things. (After all, these tools have been trained on massive data sets and are designed to mimic human intelligence and language.) But do you see the oversimplification?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s hardly enough emphasis on basic fact-checking, let alone ensuring that AI-generated ideas and content are right for your business and audience. And there\u2019s even less focus on thinking <em>beyond<\/em> the options AI tools offer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Generative AI can help you research, but shouldn\u2019t do all your research for you. It can help you strategize, but shouldn\u2019t strategize for you. We know ChatGPT or [insert alternative here] isn\u2019t <em>the tool <\/em>that does the work. Instead, it\u2019s <em>a tool<\/em> to help <em>us<\/em> do our work better, meaning we still have a critical role to play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-our-three-duties-in-the-age-of-ai-nbsp-nbsp-nbsp\"><strong>Our three duties in the age of AI&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All of the following should be non-negotiable:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Consider a variety of credible info sources.<\/strong> Have conversations with customers. Interview subject matter experts. Draw conclusions from internal company data, original research, and testing. And, of course, consult your own past experiences, expertise, and observations.<strong> <\/strong>Don\u2019t assume the information ChatGPT or a similar tool gives you is the correct, only, or best option.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Verify the viability of AI-generated ideas.<\/strong> \u201cGood\u201d and \u201cgood <em>for you<\/em>\u201d aren\u2019t mutually exclusive. Whether you\u2019re using AI for idea generation or content creation, consider audience preferences, the resources at your disposal, potential impact, and so on. You\u2019ll almost always find that tweaks and customization are necessary before you can safely greenlight a concept or press \u201cpublish\u201d on <a href=\"https:\/\/logicballs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">content generated by AI<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Think critically.<\/strong> Who, what, when, why, where, and how are your best friends. Question everything. \u201cHow could this concept apply to [unrelated subject]?\u201d \u201cWhy might [statement or belief] be misleading?\u201d \u201cWhat if the opposite of [widely accepted idea] were true?\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember: Everyone has access to generative AI now. So, you\u2019ll soon be in trouble if you\u2019re using these tools the same way most people are\u2014over-relying on them without doing proper research and quality assurance. Applying your own intelligence, expertise, and creativity to improve upon what the AI generates is <em>essential<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of AI is not to replace your human intelligence. It\u2019s to free you up to invest more of that intelligence into what will set you apart and drive business growth (e.g. ideation).
